Specific Learning Difficulties 2 - Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder 

The SLD2 module aims to develop an awareness of the theory relating to SLD in the area of Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder, and to become knowledgeable of appropriate assessment, teaching and learning pedagogies in the provision of inclusive education for learners with SLDs. This module is delivered using online components and face-to-face workshops.

Who Teaches this Programme

Requirements and Assessment

Continuous assessment will apply throughout the module. It will combine coursework on relevant aspects of Special Educational Needs with e-tivities, discussion boards, portfolio/project-based learning, literature reviews and case studies, which will be carried out within an appropriate educational context during the academic year. The concept of the ‘reflective practitioner’ will be a basic criterion permeating all forms of assessment.

As well as Specific Learning Difficulties 2, the Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity at ATU St Angelas has developed an suite of additional modules at postgraduate level in the following specific interest areas:


Completion of two modules from the above suite of modules (30 ECTS) = Postgraduate Certificate
Completion of four modules from the above suite of modules (60 ECTS) = Postgraduate Diploma

Participants may progress to Masters level on successful completion (an honours standard) of three modules from those listed above which must include the on-line blended learning module on Educational Research Methods.

Further Education

Participants may progress to Masters level on successful completion of three modules which must include the online blended learning module: Educational Research Methods. The exit award will be a Master of Arts in Professional Studies in Special Educational Needs.
