Standalone Module: Numeracy
Programme Overview
The Numeracy module aims to provide a thorough understanding of the concept of numeracy. It will enable the participant to have an in-depth knowledge of assessment procedures with regard to numeracy, and to critically appraise appropriate teaching and learning numeracy strategies and approaches. In addition, it will enable the participant to critically appraise the implications of numeracy in the development of a broad and balanced curriculum, to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of adaptive reasoning and to critically reflect on factors which influence productive disposition with regard to numeracy. This is delivered using online components and face-to-face workshops.

- A certified copy of examination transcripts (actual results and award level) or Teaching Council Registration details, if applicable. Please note these will not be returned.
- Certified copy birth and marriage certificate.
- Please provide IELTS or TOEFL certificate for applicants whose first language is not English.
* Certified copy is a photocopy endorsed and stamped by a member of the Garda Siochana or a Commissioner for Oaths. In the case of examination transcripts, these must be stamped by awarding college.

Who Teaches this Programme
Requirements and Assessment
Continuous assessment will apply throughout the module. It will combine coursework on relevant aspects of Special Educational Needs with e-tivities, discussion boards, portfolio/project-based learning, literature reviews and case studies, which will be carried out within an appropriate educational context during the academic year. The concept of the ‘reflective practitioner’ will be a basic criterion permeating all forms of assessment.

As well as Numeracy, the Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity at ATU St Angelas has developed an suite of additional modules at postgraduate level in the following specific interest areas:

- Specific Learning Difficulties 2 - Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder
Completion of two modules from the above suite of modules (30 ECTS) = Postgraduate Certificate
Completion of four modules from the above suite of modules (60 ECTS) = Postgraduate Diploma
Participants may progress to Masters level on successful completion (an honours standard) of three modules from those listed above which must include the on-line blended learning module on Educational Research Methods.
Further Education
Participants may progress to Masters level on successful completion of three modules which must include the online blended learning module: Educational Research Methods. The exit award will be a Master of Arts in Professional Studies in Special Educational Needs.
